The Delhi government is deliberating writing to the Union law ministry seeking extension of the Delhi High Court's jurisdiction to NCR. Residents of Faridabad, Ghaziabad and Noida would then no longer have to travel to the High Courts in Lucknow and Chandigarh, and instead seek justice in Delhi itself.

The members of the Delhi Bar Association, including the Delhi HC Bar Association led by the latter's President KC Mittal, presented a memorandum to Delhi CM Sheila Dikshit on Tuesday seeking the extension of the jurisdiction of HC to the entire NCR. Presently, the jurisdiction of Delhi High Court is restricted to the Union Territory of Delhi. Mittal stated that the NCR concept was mooted with the presumption that the Delhi High Court would gradually have jurisdiction over the entire NCR.

The residents of Sonepat, Rohtak, Faridabad, Gurgaon, Palwal, Rewari, Panipat, Jhajjar districts in Haryana and Ghaziabad, Gautam Buddh Nagar, Baghpat and Meerut districts in UP are forced to approach their respective HCs to seek justice resulting in huge expenditure and long travelling.
