ARE YOU planning to visit neighbouring Agra or the far off caves of Ajanta and Ellora? If you love travelling by road, so that you can also do sightseeing, but hate the long queues at the bus stations, here is some relief.
Now you can book your tickets online sitting in the air-conditioned environs of your home or office. The Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) has tied up with Pilani Soft Labs Pvt Ltd, a private company for this. Pilani Soft Labs Pvt Ltd provides online booking of tickets in different metros of the country. The online booking can be done on the website of Pilani Soft Labs Pvt Ltd, www.redbus.in. Tickets can also be booked over the phone. The cancellation can also be done online or over the phone. Not just this, passengers will also have the facility of getting the tickets delivered at home, at a charge of Rs 25 per ticket. The UPSRTC has taken Rs 2 lakh as security deposit from the private company. The company will charge Rs 20 extra to book tickets for UPSRTC buses. "Depending on the response of the public and performance of the company, online ticketing may be started in all luxury buses of UPSRTC in the state. There will be a commission of five per cent of the fare," says a UPSRTC official. Frequent travelers have welcomed the initiative. "It will not only boost tourism but also save us the trouble of standing in long queues for booking bus tickets," says Rupesh Kumar, a regular traveller to Agra.
