There is good news for the die-hard fans of Dilli Haat. After a long gap, the Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA) is all set to revive the Ghaziabad Haat at Swarn Jayanti Park. Decks have been cleared for inviting artists from all over the country from October 2 onwards.

Once again as a winter bonanza for the city, S. K. Dwivedi, GDA Vice Chairman, has also formally announced plans for inviting applications from all over the country to promote a handicrafts bazaar in the Haat.

"The Haat will be based on the lines of Dilli Haat. Artisans from Orissa, Gujarat, Rajasthan and other states would promote their art and culture here. The project is being revived this year after a brief lull so that the Haat can gain a more permanent place in Indirapuram," says A. K. Gupta, GDA Executive Engineer Work has started to meet the October deadline. The total area has been developed by the GDA at a total cost of Rs 2.5 crore. The Haat will have 25 acres of landscaped greens, separate kids' zone, seasonal flowerbeds and 12 life-size statues of women freedom fighters.

"Finally the handicrafts bazaar is going to be a reality The bazaar came up almost a year back with a handicrafts mela. There was not much activity here after that, since the artisans went back after a short while. Now with the GDA reviving the project we are only hoping that the Haat will slowly become a permanent feature here," says a resident of Indirapuram.

With not much activity in the Swarn Jayanti Park for over a year now, the Haat, with an open air theatre and small restaurants for state cuisines, had being lying closed. With work on in full swing now, GDA is also hoping get more visitors to the Haat.

"The Haat is a well planned construction. With the formalities being completed, the bazaar will look up with wider participation and more visitors. Already Indirapuram has a large number of visitors from Noida, Faridabad and Gurgaon who come the malls here," says Gupta.
