The Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority (GNIDA) too has decided to take the help of technology in order to deal with land grabbers.

Earlier this year, the Noida Authority had taken recourse to the remote sensing technology to keep encroachments under control. Similarly, the GNIDA would from now on collect data regarding the spread of encroachment in the city through remote sensing technology "We plan to take satellite pictures as well as make film videos and maintain a geographical database of villages before land acquisition. The pictures and maps obtained via the satellite will help us identify fresh encroachments coming up and hence help protect our property," says Lalit Srivastava, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, GNIDA. "This wn also help us distinguish the residential and agricultural land. It wn help us in deciding the disputes related to land compensations," he adds.

According to GNIDA, all the areas of the city will be mapped through satellite. And once the data of the last 50 years has been collected and encroachments identified, action wn be taken against those involved. Action against eneroachers would involve hefty fines, legal action and in extreme cases, cancellation of lease deed too.

According to GNIDA, the encroachment is more pronounced in rural areas where even after a landowner has been compensated for his/her land, he tends to take over the area that has officially been acquired by the authorityHT's Live
