Noida To Have Its First Organised Flower Market Spread Over 35 Acres, Likely To Start rom OctBy Nikhil IAS, Section Development
North India will soon have its first organised flower market in Noida. A flori mart spread over 35 acres, developed by the UP State Agriculture Marketing Board, is likely to start from October.
The process of allotment of shops in the flori mart will begin as soon as the notification is issued by the UP government. Two flori marts are operational in India, in Mumbai and Pune. Shops in the flower mart command huge premium as the unorganised flower market in Delhi's Connaught Place, where business worth overs Rs 800 crore is transacted annually, are likely to be shifted to the new flower mart at Noida. Besides the Noida flower mart, in view of the huge business potential is expected to attract the flower growers from Uttarakhand, Himanchal Pradesh Punjab and even the north eastern states. In the flower mart 74 shops, which includes 64 C type and 10 B type shops are to be allotted to the flower cultivators and traders. "All formalities have been completed and we have devised separate by-laws for the flowers trade and for the selection of traders and farmers who can take part in the auction process for the allotment of 74 shops constructed within the Flori mart'', said Rajesh Kumar Singh, director of the UP state Agriculture produce marketing boards. "The Noida flori mart will be our hugely successful venture. The biggest flower market in North India operates from Cannaught place Delhi which transacts business of over Rs 2 crore a day, is an illegal market which operates from 5 am in the morning to 7 pm, but we do not want that market to be shifted to Noida, we wants to create an attractive business environment for the traders and farmers so they will come on their own to Noida,'' said Rajesh Kumar Singh. click On "full Story" For More...
"The traders of Delhi will shift to Noida sooner or later as they were operating from Cannaught Place, without any infrastructure and face lot of hardships and farmers will also be attracted if they get better price here,'' said the director.
Of the total 35 areas of land the flower mart has been developed on 13 acres of land in Sector 88 of NOIDA, costing nearly Rs 35 crore. In the remaining 22 acres of land fruit and vegetable market is proposed to be developed. The flori mart project was initiated during the previous regime of Mulayam Singh Yadav in 2005-06, was completed in May 2007. The civil and electrical work of the flower mart was completed in March 2008. The NOIDA flower mart project financed by Agriculture Produce Export Development Agency (APEDA) a body of the Centre was conceived to cater to the needs of the NCR and also to give a market to the flower growers of the state from all regions. The flower mart at Noida aims to give a market to flower growers from all over the state. Farmers here have been growing flowers like gerbera, gladiolus and rajnigandha, which have a good demand in Delhi, Noida and Ghaziabad and the surrounding areas. The flower mart once operational is expected to immensely benefit the flower growers who face myriad problems in sending their produce to the market within desired time as flower is a highly perishable commodity. "We will tap the flower cultivators of Himanchal Pradesh; our teams have visited Solan and Shimla. We will hire the refrigerated trucks for the transport of the flowers from HP, Uttrakhand and other arrears to NOIDA,'' said Rajesh Kumar Singh, adding ''NOIDA is the first flori mart in India to have clod storage with four chambers of 10 MT each and total capacity to store 40 MT of different varieties of flowers."
