Better view are ahead for the Chaudhary Charan Singh Udyan in Kalindi Kunj, near Sarita Vihar. The Uttar Pradesh (UP) Tourism has decided to revamp the area so as to make it more attractive for not just native tourists, but those coming from abroad as well. The department officials recently paid a visit to the area to work out the details of the project to be carried out here.

"The idea is to develop the park as a hip and happening hangout zone. Being situated at the border of Delhi and Noida, the place attracts many visitors but lack of amusement facilities here play a spoilsport," says Prem Chand, Executive Engineer, UP Irrigation Department, who is also in charge of the park.

The garden has been developed on the lines of Vrindavan Garden in Mysore. With nine colourful and one musical fountain offers a breathtaking sight in the evening, except for Holi and Diwali, it is open all seven days in the week, from 9 a.m to 8.30 p.m.

The park has a huge potential. Located right next to the Yamuna barrage and Okhla Bird Sanctuary, the place has the added advantage of being home to exotic migratory birds, like flamingos, during winter.Further, the cost of entry is also not high. Entry fee is Rs 20 per person (Rs 10 for children below 12). Special discount is also offered to students. Charges for still camera is Rs 10 and video camera is Rs 200.

But the 14-acre park has failed to become an exotic destination for nature lovers, mainly because a large portion of it is neglected.
Overgrown grass, fountains with sludge at their base, stinking water and stray dogs, all contribute towards it. Visitors often feel dejected, as half the fountains, the USP of the garden, often don't spring to life. The fountains have loose electric wires at several places, making the place risky for children. Also cleanliness is somewhat lacking, perhaps the sweeping is not done regularly .

The UP Government plans to remove all the ills that ail this park. Plans are also underway to start two aquariums and put up more swings.
"We have plans to start two aquariums and add more swings and dinosaur shaped iron figures for children. Also on the anvil is a 15 m high watch tower. Visitors will be allowed to climb the tower for birdwatching," says Gupta."We hope once the development is complete, that is by the end of this year, the number of visitors will increase," he adds.
