Plans for the inaugural Indian Grand Prix in 2011 are on target and will not be derailed by the global recession, according to the construction company that is building a brand-new circuit to host the race.

India's grand prix debut was originally pencilled in for 2010, but Bernie Ecclestone announced last October that it would be delayed until the following season.

Renault's F1 demonstration in New Delhi last November drew a huge crowd

Samir Gaur, managing director of the JPSK Sports company that has acquired the rights to put on the event, says funds for the new venue are in place and it will be ready on time.

"The progress is very nice...I'm absolutely confident [it will be completed]," he told the Reuters news agency.

"The track will be ready in 2011.

"The design stage is in progress and regarding construction, the investigations of the site have also started.

"I'm expecting the track to be completed in April 2011.

"We plan to run trial events between May and July so that in October I think we can fix the calendar for the race."

The circuit will be located approximately 30 miles from the nation's capital New Delhi, near the fast-growing satellite town of Greater Noida, and is expected to cost around 18 billion rupees (£240m).

Gaur's company plans to turn the venue into a sports hub, with a cricket stadium, golf course, hockey stadium and sports academy as well as the F1 track on a 500-acre site.

"It is going to be a sports destination," he said.

"It will have the Formula 1 track and the buildings. It can accommodate around 200,000 people."

Gaur added that India does not intend to follow Singapore's lead by holding the race at night.

"There is no plan for a night race right now," he said.

"We want to see the outcome of the first race after which we will see if we can do a night race."
