The problem of garbage dumping is about to get resolved in Noida as the Noida Authority (NA) has acquired land recently to set up a solid waste management plant in the city soon. NA has taken this decision on the requests of the residents. RWAs are taking this initiative as a next move towards adaptation of solid waste management scheme.

Noida Authority has acquired land in Dadri village and they also have a plan to identify new places in city for small size dumping ground, where Authority can store garbage on temporary basis. All the preparations for the installation of the plant have been done and now only a technical report from the Housing and Urban Development Corporation (HUDCO) is awaited. Once this scheme starts its operations, over 400-tonne waste which is being generated daily in Noida won't be seen dumped in the city.

Noida Authority secretary RS Chahar said, "The work of setting up a solid waste plant has been entrusted to a Roorkee-based agency. This agency was selected after the agency hired earlier expressed its inability to go ahead with the project. A number of locations have also been surveyed for the plant and the volume of waste being generated in Noida has been assessed. Now only a technical report from the HUDCO is awaited."

The HUDCO report is expected within four months. And the solid waste management plant would become operational within a year, say Noida Authority officials on the condition of anonymity.

Manoj Nagar, a resident of Sector 47 said, "Solid Waste Management Scheme is the only solution of the unmanaged and unsafe dumping of the garbage. This scheme has already proved its utility in various neighbourhood cities like Gurgaon, etc. If Authority is adopting this process, then it is a positive initiative taken by the officials as most of the vacant plots of the city are being used as garbage dumping grounds."

Mamta Bedi, a resident of Sector 22 said, "Residents of the city are facing a lot of problems due to improper system of garbage disposal. NA staff use open areas to dump garbage, which they collect from houses on regular basis and some people also dump garbage in vacant plots."
